ANTHONY CONRAD KAKOOZA (9 – 12 October 2017)

Anthony Conrad Kakooza, Dean – Faculty of Law at Uganda Christian University, has been teaching Intellectual Property and Land Law courses at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda, since 2003. He was also recently appointed a Visiting Professor in the area of Intellectual Property, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Folklore at the College of Law, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (U.S.A).  Dr. Kakooza’s courses are mainly interactive and largely visual – drawn from video clips as his most effective teaching method of presenting case studies to generate class discussions.

Dr. Kakooza has served on the Uganda National Steering Committee in the formulation of the National Intellectual Property Policy. He is consulted upon on numerous occasions by the National IP Registration Office known as the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and has made a number of conference presentations on behalf of the URSB on topics related to protection and enforcement of Intellectual Property rights.

Dr. Kakooza is a holder of a Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D) degree focusing on Intellectual Property law from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign, U.S.A; he holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in International Economic Law, focusing on International Intellectual Property law, from the University of Warwick, U.K; he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from Makerere University, Uganda and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (DIP. LP), from the Law Development Center, Uganda. He is licensed to practice law in the Courts of law in Uganda.
