JUAN JOSÉ GÓMEZ GUTIÉRREZ

Juan José Gómez Gutiérrez is Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of the Basque Country. His research focuses on the relationship between Aesthetics and politics in the 20th Century. He has published the monograph The PCI Artists: Antifascism and Communism in Italian Art (2015), dealing with the status of Modern art at the outbreak of the Cold War. He has also written numerous academic articles on Italian modernism, Benjamin, Gramsci, Malevich, Picasso and Situationism. At present, he is working in a collective book on Guernica for Madrid’s Reina National Sofia Museum.
In 2003, he founded Editorial Doble J, a publishing initiative specialised in Humanities. Other Juan José Gómez’s activities include advisory work in cultural politics for the Andalusian Parliament and several municipalities, and the frequent organisation of conferences, extramural courses and cultural events.
