DR NATALIE VANICEK
Reader in Clinical Biomechanics
School of Life Sciences, University of Hull, United Kingdom
Research interests of Dr Vanicek are broadly focused on clinical gait analysis and musculoskeletal biomechanics aimed at improving functional performance and attenuating musculoskeletal decline. Using biomechanical tools of analysis, she investigates movement patterns in individuals with altered lower limb mechanics as a result of ageing, disease and trauma. To date, her research has focused on working with vascular and traumatic lower limb amputees, a healthy ageing population, patients with intermittent claudication caused by peripheral arterial disease and individuals with osteoporosis. Her work has had a significant impact on amputee physiotherapy treatment and the revision of existing clinical healthcare guidelines and policies related to lower limb amputees in the UK.Prior to returning to the University of Hull, Dr Vanicek was a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Sydney (2012-2013), where she remains an Honorary Senior Lecturer. In this capacity, she continues her involvement with colleagues from the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Research Group and the 1000 Norms Project.
